Oh man - if I could only place the knowledge of how much God longs to restore you into these words! The healing journey He has brought me on is nothing short of profound, miraculous and INCREDIBLE! He did it for me and He can do it for you!
Most times (really almost always) the deepest wounds don't show on the outside. They live tucked away in the quiet places of our hearts-old hurts, silent disappointments, regrets, fears, or words spoken over us that we've never fully shaken and unforgiveness. Forgiveness is a huge part in healing, check out the previous blog post and follow the examples on how to truly forgive, from your heart.
But God sees what no one else does. He's not afraid of our brokenness. He doesn't flinch at our pain. He moves toward it with healing in His hands and restoration in His heart.
The Word says
James 4:7-8 "Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he WILL flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you." Did you know that a great majority of hurt and trauma is caused by not only sin (the enemy) in the world but also the enemy of our soul? He is constantly at work -- BUT SO IS GOD! When we pursue Him and surrender to God, it brings closeness and in that we receive cleansing and healing of even THE deepest wounds!
Psalm 147:3 "He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds." We simply lay the broken pieces before Him and He does the mending. The truly hard part is allowing Him the time to do it. His timing IS perfect and as we allow Him the time and our surrender, it is AMAZING what He can do in that!
Matthew 11:28-30 "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from ME, for I am GENTLE and lowly in heart, and you WILL find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light" (Emphasis is mine).
A yoke is a heavy wooden harness that joins two animals together to pull a load (see photo below). When Jesus says "My yoke is easy", He is saying that when we walk closely with Him, connected, fully surrendered, the "burden" is no longer crushing and intolerable. He is carrying it for you. What a beautiful Savior!
Reflection Questions:
- What parts of your heart feel like they still need healing?
- Have you invited God into those places, or have you been trying to handle them on your own?
Prayer:
Jesus, I ask first that I be made clean before you. Please forgive me for ______________. Father, I choose today to open the door to every corner of my heart to you. Even the places that hurt. Even the ones I've tried to forget. I ask You to begin to heal what's been broken and restore what's been lost. Thank You for being incredibly gentle, kind, and faithful. I trust You to do what only You can and I am committed to surrendering this to you. In Jesus' mighty name, amen.
P.S. Surrender isn't just laying something down. It is laying into His hands. And when your hands are empty. His hands are free to heal, hold, restore and cleanse all you held onto. If you struggle what that, simply ask Him to help you do it!
