Week 3 - Captivated by the Lord
Scripture: Psalm 27:4
"One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek:that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple."
What captures your attention captures your heart. We're constantly surrounded by things vying for our focus-our phones, our to-do lists, our worries, our goals. Just yesterday in church we were asked the question, WHO over WHAT in your life are you living for? There can be a whole slew of answers and in full transparency, mine was HEALING! I was so desperate for healing in my soul after years of abuse that I choose to focus and live for healing over living for the Healer! This just goes to show that even things we think are good, can become an issue if left unchecked.
But what if we allowed ourselves to be
fully captivated by the Lord?
To be captivated means to be held in awe. To be so deeply drawn to something that your thoughts, emotions, and attention are fixed on it. David understood this when he wrote Psalm 27:4. His greatest desire wasn't success, comfort, or control. It was to dwell in God's presence and behold His beauty.
Reflection Questions:
- What has been capturing most of your attention lately?
- When was the last time you were awestruck by God?
Prayer:
Lord, I want to be captivated by You-not distracted by lesser things. Restore to me the wonder of Your presence. Help me to fix my eyes on You and delight in who You are. Stir a fresh hunger in my heart to seek You above all else. In Jesus' name, amen.
